Industry Agenda for Passenger Revenue Accounting for 2010

Kale Consultants has been at the forefront of building industry opinion on the Future of Passenger Revenue Accounting. At the advent of 2010, Kale engaged the global revenue accounting community to articulate their views on the industry agenda. A brief survey questionnaire was sent to the RA community asking them about their preferences for coming 12 months.

Over 100 revenue accounting professionals from across the industry responded to the survey. The results provide a privileged insight into the top priorities for Revenue Accountants from across the globe. “Understanding & preparing for SIS”, “Identifying & recovering lost revenue through audits” and “Reducing operational costs for RA” being amongst the top priorities for airlines world over.

Findings

The findings of this survey will act as fog lights to guide Revenue Accounting professionals across various airlines to ascribe relative importance to issues which impact the function.

Even though many parameters have got similar priority rankings from different regions, there are others having large disparity. It is interesting to note that “Moving from legacy systems to advanced systems” has been ranked at no. 2 for American carriers & “Improving staff productivity” has been ranked No. 1 for airlines in Middle East & Africa. It clearly indicates that though we have made definite advancements in RA at Industry level in the past few years, there are issues which are geography specific & are unanswered till date.

The survey indicates that “Satisfying internal stakeholders” ranks low amongst airlines. But, this situation is changing swiftly. Today, RA departments in many airlines are working closely with Commercial. This trend clearly highlights airlines’ changing perspective towards RA in being a strategic function than merely back-office function.

We welcome your opinion & feedback on these findings. For more information on setting the industry agenda for revenue accounting community please write to airlines@kaleconsultants.com

The findings of the industry agenda survey will translate into more actionable dialogue at the Stay Ahead Summits – Kale’s Thought Leadership Forum for the Revenue Accounting Community.
